Discover Ilfracombe’s Hidden Gems & Local Eats

Ilfracombe has so much to offer, from stunning beaches to delicious food, and we recently had the pleasure of exploring some of the best spots while friends were in town. Whether you’re after family-friendly fun, a relaxing meal, or a bit of adventure, Ilfracombe has something for everyone—and many of these delights are just a stone’s throw from Marine Court!

Exploring Ilfracombe’s Hidden Gems 🏖️🏰

We kicked off our adventure by soaking up the natural beauty of Hele Bay and Woolacombe Beach. These picturesque spots are perfect for a stroll, a paddle, or simply lounging in the sun—and best of all, they’re completely free to enjoy! A walk along Ilfracombe’s charming harbour led us to the pirate play area and funfair, a must for families with little ones. 🏴‍☠️🎡

A real highlight was our private boat tour with Kittiwake Charters. Their "Bull Point Lighthouse & Seals" tour was nothing short of magical, taking us close enough to see seals basking on the rocks! 🦭 If you love wildlife and the sea, this is an unforgettable experience that we can’t recommend enough.

Our next stop was Watermouth Castle, where we could have easily spent the whole day. From the castle’s fascinating exhibits to the rides and new Hobbledown Bay play area, it’s packed with activities for all ages. If you’re planning a visit, give yourself plenty of time—it’s a treasure trove of fun that’s well worth multiple trips!

And when you’re at Woolacombe Beach, don’t miss out on the hidden gem that is Barricane Beach Café. With their famous Sri Lankan curry served right on the sand, you can enjoy the most stunning sunset while tucking into a delicious meal. 🍛🌅 It’s a unique experience that feels like a perfect end to any day at the beach.

Best Local Eats & Drinks Near Marine Court 🍻🍴

No trip is complete without sampling some of Ilfracombe’s best local eats, and we certainly did just that! First up, we dropped by the Wellington Arms, to catch the Premier League action in their sunny beer garden with an outdoor screen. It’s a great spot for sports fans, with plenty of screens indoors too! ⚽️

For a real family-friendly vibe, Larkstone Café Bar is a fantastic choice. With a climbing frame, trampoline, and go-karts, it kept the kids entertained while we relaxed with a delicious meal and drinks. It’s the perfect blend of fun and relaxation for everyone. 🍔🍷

Another gem is Lime Kiln Café, perched above the watersports hub. With its dog-friendly atmosphere and amazing views of the harbour and Verity statue, it’s ideal for a laid-back lunch or a coffee stop. We couldn’t resist trying their high-quality fish and chips and their posh fish finger sandwich—both were a treat! 🐾🌊

Hidden away in Watermouth Harbour, Storm in a Teacup offered a peaceful escape with a scenic walk to the nearby Round Tower. We loved spending a couple of hours there, soaking up the tranquillity and enjoying some tasty treats. ☕️

And for a true farm-to-table experience, Comyn Farm was a highlight. Located just outside Ilfracombe, this working farm serves up an incredible Sunday roast with meats and veg sourced locally, some from the farm itself. The homemade vegetarian nut roast and the variety of vegetables were top-notch, and their individual gravy boats, including gluten-free options, were a lovely touch. 🥧🍴 Make sure to book in advance, as it’s a popular spot! They also offer delicious farm-fresh breakfasts Monday through Saturday—perfect for a return visit.

Whether you're looking for adventure, family fun, or mouthwatering local food, Ilfracombe has it all. Be sure to explore these gems on your next stay at Marine Court, and create lasting memories in this beautiful part of North Devon. 🌟
